AMI in the Community

As an employee-owned company with close ties to the community, we recognize that working with and supporting local nonprofit organizations and charitable causes enhances the quality of place where we all live and work. AMI employees support the community through annual donations to United Way, with AMI providing matching contributions for every donation.

AMI has placed a particular focus on supporting robotic teams for various schools in our area. This initiative involves building the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills for youth. Moreover, participants learn a great deal about electronics and the program lays the groundwork for the next generation of engineers, scientists and innovators that may work at AMI or any number of technology-based companies that exist now or will in the future. In 2013, AMI supported two youth robotics teams in Winthrop and supported the Gardiner High School team.

In 2014, AMI became a sponsor of MIT’s $100K Entrepreneurship Competition an annual, year-long contest that challenges students to design, develop and market new products and businesses. AMI is providing its electronics manufacturing expertise to build prototype circuit card assemblies with no-cost labor for semi-finalists and finalists in the Launch segment. Additionally, AMI is covering up to $500 of material for each finalist in this highly competitive contest.

The start-up community in Maine is thriving. AMI supports new innovation in our region by being the go-to electronics manufacturer for new and expanding companies with turn-key solutions that begin with prototype development. AMI supported the Kennebec Valley YMCA’s 2013 inaugural triathlon by being a principal sponsor for the youth-tri. The event which included an adult triathlon as well, fostered healthy exercise for kids, ages 6 to 12, and raised money for the Y’s general operations that support community wellness programs throughout our region.

AMI has long been active in the Chambers of Commerce, including the State of Maine, Kennebec Valley and Winthrop Lakes Region chambers. For several years, AMI has been one of the sponsors of the week-long summer Whatever Festival organized by the Kennebec Valley Chamber. The event draws local families and summer visitors from across the region to dozens and dozens of events in the state’s capital of Augusta.
